The island holds a unique historical significance. It was initially used as a quarantine station before the British built a prison for Stone Town in the 1890s.

From Stone Town you will take the boat to Prison Island to see old prison ruins, and to see land giant totoises. you may have free time to spend on the beach and swimming if you are interested.
